We want your first week at CBU to be one to remember. That’s why we’re making sure you have all of the information you need before your journey begins. This year, CBU’s Week of Welcome runs from August 28-September 8, 2019. We can’t wait to see you throughout the week!

International Student Move In: 8:30am – 4:30pm, Harriss Hall   

Residence will be open for international students to move in prior to international orientation programming on August 29 and 30. Campus tours will take place in the afternoon.

Canada, Eh? 10:00am – 3:00pm, Canada Games Complex

Canada, Eh? is a fun and engaging information session designed to help international students adjust to life in Canada. The information covered in the session will give students a strong introduction to a range of topics which will help with the adjustment of studying and living in Canada.

How to Succeed in Canada Without Even Trying: 10:00am – 3:00pm, Canada Games Complex

This is a high-energy day for international students filled with information sessions, prizes and fun. Students will attend sessions and take part in a “supports fair” allowing them to learn all about the services offered both on campus at CBU and in the surrounding community.

This is a day you don’t want to miss! At Campus Kick-Off, first-year students will be able to move in to residence, your new home away from home, and then spend the day celebrating, meeting new people and having a blast! So grab your friends and join us for a campus-wide BBQ, live-entertainment, games and more! You’ll also have a chance to catch a campus tour, get a pic in our photo booth and have your Smart Card made. 

Who should attend: All new students! Whether you’re living on-campus or off-campus, all first-year students are encouraged to attend. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Location: Residence Courtyard

9:00am – 12:00pm: Move-in for first-year residence students

12:00pm-2:00pm: Free BBQ in residence courtyard for all! Vegetarian and gluten-free options available.

4:00pm: CBU Instatour! Students will have the opportunity to travel in groups on a self-guided tour around campus, finding locations to capture their first instagrammable moments at CBU! Tag CBU in your social media posts for your chance to win a great prize!

8:30pm-11:00pm: Bonfire with live music and classic campfire snacks such as s’mores! Location: Pit Courtyard

Students will take part in a scavenger hunt in downtown Sydney, allowing them to get the lay of the land and complete challenges in a team. Shuttles will be available from campus to the starting location (The Big Fiddle). Students will return to campus for a BBQ and social at The Pit, where we’ll enjoy music and non-alcoholic beverages while socializing. Prizes from the Scavenger Hunt will also be awarded at this event!

Hosted by the CBUSU, the Beach Party at Dominion Beach will be a day full of fun in the sun, food, prizes and music by DJ Majestic! CBU staff will provide a shuttle service from campus and select locations in the community so all students can attend. Then, bring your blankets and come relax at an outdoor movie with friends! Keep an eye out on CBUSU’s social media for a poll to determine the movie selection. We’ll bring the popcorn!

First-year university students have a lot of questions and likely some worries: Will the workload be too much? What is the best way to take notes during lectures? How do I approach a professor? Well, have no fear, we’re here to answer your questions, provide some tips and tricks and help you make some new friends along the way.

The School Orientations are FREE, informative events, full of information and fun. From a Mi’kmaw welcoming ceremony to informative sessions and CBU’s legendary Paint Battle, this day is jam-packed with everything you need to know to transition into university life. No registration is required! See you there!

The CBUSU will be hosting a social in the Pit immediately following the Paint Battle. No need to rush home for a shower, students are strongly encouraged to attend in their Paint Battle clothes to keep the fun and spirit of the battle alive!

Welcome to your first week of classes at CBU. You’ve got this. And we’ll have help waiting around every corner to make sure you find your classes with ease. The PSC Social is a fun get-together that gives students the chance to meet their assigned PSC in person and make connections with other students who have similar interests!

The perfect chance to come and meet your professors, ask important questions and get answers directly!

Lip Sync Battle: 7:00pm – 11:00pm, The Pit

Come one, come all for the annual lip sync battle! Enter alone or in a group of friends, have a laugh and loads of fun, plus win great prizes!

Please note: due to pending weather conditions, the Orange Out Events have been postponed. The games will continue as scheduled until further notice, but the community BBQ will now take place on Saturday, September 28. 

ORANGE OUT is one of the BIGGEST days of the year. Come out to support your CAPERS soccer teams, experience the amazing school spirit of CBU and have fun with friends. This is a day for the entire community, so come be a part of it!

Orange Army Training & Community BBQ: 11:00am – 12:30pm, The Pit & Pit Courtyard

This is the official orientation to the Orange Army, with a twist! Alumni and Development is inviting former Pit Crew members and CAPERS fans to join a high energy pre-game social with the current Orange Army squad! Free food will be available from the community BBQ, and there will be plenty of activities for kids including inflatables from HRM Mascots!

Women’s Soccer: CBU VS. UNB: 1:00pm, CBU Field (near “The Dome).

Come cheer on the CAPERS women’s soccer team as they play their first home game since winning the AUS Championship and U-Sports bronze medal in 2018!

Men’s Soccer: CBU VS. UNB: 3:00pm, CBU Field (near “The Dome”).

Come cheer on the CAPERS men’s soccer team as they play their first home game since winning the AUS Championship and U-Sports silver medal in 2018!

Orange Out!: 9:00pm-1:00am, The Pit

Wear your CBU orange with pride at the CBUSU’s annual kick-off party! This a wet/dry event, meaning all ages of students are welcome to attend. Admission is $10 for CBU students, and $12.00 general admission.
