In November 2018, long-time CBU faculty member and pioneer historian Don MacGillivray passed away. The objective of this panel is to reflect on the scholarly legacy of “Red Don” — specifically his contributions to Cape Breton and labour and working-class history. The panel will begin with a 20-minute presentation by Dr. David Frank, long-time editor of the scholarly journal Acadiensis, professor emeritus of history from University of New Brunswick, and personal friend of Don MacGillivray. Frank’s presentation will be followed by responses from Dr. Lachlan MacKinnon and Dr. Scott Moir from CBU. An open question-and-answer session will fill out the remainder of the session.
