Partner City Workshop: Wałbrzych, Poland

Coinciding with the visit of a delegation from Wałbrzych, Poland – the Cape Breton Regional Municipality’s new sister city – CBU’s Tompkins Institute will be hosting a Partner City Workshop, bringing together local leaders and organizations.

It will take place on Tuesday, June 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. CBU colleagues are warmly welcome to attend.

The purpose of this dynamic, fast-paced workshop will be to identify/develop international collaborations, joint projects, and partnerships that will benefit both the CBRM and Wałbrzych. This includes economic, cultural, educational, technological, recreational, and environmental benefits.

We will also be learning about Wałbrzych’s fascinating experience transitioning to a post-industrial economy. The city has 115,000 people. Its economy was previously based on coal mining. Wałbrzych has done considerable work to overcome unemployment and environmental degradation.

Our special guests will be:

  • Dr. Roman Szełemej, Mayor of Wałbrzych
  • Ms. Anna Żabska, CEO of the Książ Castle complex, a major historic area of international significance.
  • Mr. Arkadiusz Grudzień, Director of Tourism, Culture and Sport for the City of Wałbrzych
