A generous donation from Louis Maroun & Dr. Magdy El Kady has allowed the CBU Library to build the Maroun El-Kady Collection: English-language materials that cover the areas of culture, economics, geography, history, economics, and political science of the Middle East.
On October 5 from 3-4pm in the Library Student Lounge, we will highlight some of our new arrivals to the collection, particularly in the areas of music of the Arab and Islamic worlds. Special guest speaker Dr. Anne K. Rasmussen provide a talk on the musical traditions of the Middle East. Dr. Rasmussen is Professor of Music and Ethnomusicology, the Bickers Professor of Middle Eastern Studies, and Director of the W&M Middle Eastern Music Ensemble at the College of William and Mary. She is also currently the President of the Society for Ethnomusicology.
Dr. Rassmussen will provide a brief address about studies of musics in the Middle East. She will then be joined in a short musical performance by her colleague, ethnomusicologist Dr. Anne Elise Thomas, and percussionist Hansen Millison. http://www.wm.edu/as/music/directory/rasmussen_a.php
