Title: Demographic and Economic Challenges of Nova Scotia municipalities: Special Focus on Cape Breton Communities.

Abstract: Aging population affects many rural communities across Canada. However, it seems that its effects are more important in Atlantic Provinces due to their economic weaknesses. During this presentation, I present some statistics to understand the current situation. To illustrate the impact of aging population and slow (or negative) economic growth, I study the causes of Canso amalgamation. I complete the presentation by discussing the situation of the Cape Breton municipalities and reserves.
