Convocation FAQs

On this page, you will find FAQs related to Spring Convocation, 2020.

We know that convocation is an important milestone but due to the practice of social distancing, the spring ceremony must be cancelled for the safety of our employees, graduates and their families, and the broader Cape Breton community.

We will be celebrating virtually on May 9 on our Convocation Hub Page!

Convocation FAQs

Spring Convocation and associated celebratory events will be cancelled. We know that convocation is an important milestone but due to the practice of social distancing, the spring ceremony must be cancelled for the safety of our employees, graduates and their families, and the broader Cape Breton community. Students will receive a follow-up email directly from the Registrar’s Office with more information.

Students will still officially and legally graduate, and celebrations will be held at cbuconvocation2020.ca on May 9.

At this time the Convocation Committee is discussing potential alternatives. Although we are saddened by the need to cancel the Spring Ceremony, we want to reiterate that students will still in fact graduate and receive their parchments on time.

The convocation package will include your parchment (degrees, certificates, diplomas), Letter of Completion (for International students) and a copy of your transcript.

Students will receive their convocation package the week of May 11.

Convocation packaged will be sent in the mail. We are currently developing a form that will be sent directly to potential graduates to gather their contact information.

At this time, pick-up will not be an option.

The convocation application fee paid by CBU graduates does not cover the cost of the Convocation ceremony. It is an application processing fee that covers the degree audit and approval process as well as the production of the parchment.

Each year, graduates are required to pay this processing fee whether they elect to attend the convocation ceremony or not.

At this point in time, we are not having students borrow regalia but we are collecting a list of students who would like to do this.  Please email convocation@cbu.ca if you would like to be added to the list and we will provide more information as soon as possible.

We will keep in touch with all potential graduates through their CBU email address, social media and the Convocation Web Page.
