Meet the #CBURoadSquad

Meet the 2018 #CBURoadSquad! Find them at Cape Breton’s hottest events all summer long. They’ll be driving a 2018 Honda HR-V generously provided by Ramsay’s Honda, so you can’t miss them. They’re super friendly, so say hi and see what they’re up to. They might just happen to have awesome swag.

Karly Bernard, Bachelor of Arts

Hi! My name is Karly Bernard, and I am the newest member of the 2018 #CBURoadSquad! I am a third-year Bachelor of Arts student here at Cape Breton University, with a major in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. In the future, I hope to study law. I am from the small community of Paq’tnkek, just outside of Antigonish, and I love exploring and experiencing all that Cape Breton Island has to offer.

I’m very excited about the #CBUStaycation challenge; a Bucket List of must-do Island activities and adventures. I’m especially thrilled about the breathtaking hikes, walks and any water activities featured on the list, and of course, the challenge of seeing a movie at the Cape Breton Drive-In.

Watch for us in the #CBURoadSquad cruiser while we explore Cape Breton Island, attend events, festivals and meet new people. Come to say hi, get some awesome swag and check out the #CBUStaycation challenge to find out how you can be eligible to win the ultimate grand prize package by completing our #CBUStaycation Bucket List items while exploring Cape Breton’s beauty.

Emma, Kenzie and I will be sharing all of our summer adventures through our social platforms, so be sure to follow us on Instagram and Twitter at @cburoadsquad!

Kenzie Wadden, Bachelor of Engineering Technology

Hi I’m Kenzie and I am a returning member of the #CBURoadSquad. I graduated from Glace Bay High School in 2014 and enrolled at NSCC where I took Process Operations- 4th Class Power Engineering. Following my program, I took a year off to figure out what my next step was; that’s when I found the BET program at CBU. I am now entering my final year of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Petroleum program.

Last year, having the opportunity to travel around Cape Breton Island promoting CBU at festivals and events was one of the best experiences of my life. It allowed me to see the beautiful sites of Cape Breton and create a broader awareness about all the amazing things that happen on our Island. This year, I was fortunate enough to be apart of CBU’s first ever social squad! My job was to post pictures on social media over the course of the winter semester to promote different aspects of the university. It was a great opportunity to learn about what happens on campus at CBU!

Follow along on social media to see where we’re at and what we’re doing. This summer, grab some family or friends and go out and complete some of our #CBUStaycation challenges! Not only will you have some awesome pictures for your social media and make some great memories, but you can win some amazing prizes as well! Be sure to come see myself and Emma this summer to get some awesome CBU swag and to learn more about our contest. Can’t wait to meet you this summer!

Emma Drohan, Bachelor of Science

Hi, my name is Emma Drohan, an upcoming second year student at Cape Breton University and the new member of the 2018 #CBURoadSquad! I am from Sydney born and raised so I have had a few years to explore Cape Breton Island and find some hidden gems. Being on the Road Squad I am so excited to share my gems with you and to learn some of your favorites.

I’m currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program but I’m still figuring out what my next move is. No matter what I decide, I know that CBU is the perfect place for me to complete my degree.

This summer, my picks from our CBU staycation list will be some water sports or some new places to grab a bite to eat (most likely some sweet treats). Some of my favorite summer activities include paddle boarding, going to the beach and indulging in some  ice cream. One of my favorite events to go to is Ribfest because well … nothing says summer like BBQ ribs and fresh lemonade, plus it is for a great cause in our community.

Being able to go around our beautiful island and meet new people is my dream summer job. Make sure you follow Kenzie and I this summer on our social media channels to keep up to date on what we are doing and our incredible Staycation prize package this year. We can’t wait to see you on the road!
