The Department of L’nu, Political, and Social Studies of the School of Arts and Social Science (SASS) in conjunction with the Kji-keptin Alexander Denny L’nui’sultimkeweyo’kuom (Mi’kmaq Language Lab) of the Unama’ki College of Cape Breton invites applications for a full-time continuing position in Conversational Mi’kmaq and Mi’kmaw literacy at the rank of lecturer. The position will commence as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will have their office in the Kji-keptin Alexander Denny L’nui’sultimkeweyo’kuom.
The ideal candidate must be fluent in the Mi’kmaw language and be able to demonstrate evidence of their ability to read and write using the Smith/Francis Orthography. The search committee will rank highly applicants with previous teaching experience in the area of Mi’kmaw language acquisition.
The successful candidate will guide the development of Mi’kmaw language learning at CBU by: teaching Mi’kmaw language courses; assisting Elders and Knowledge Holders associated with Unama’ki College; developing content for the conversational Mi’kmaw language and literacy courses; and supporting the day-to-day functioning of the language lab.
The search committee will take a broad and inclusive view of applicants’ qualifications. Applicants with traditional and living Indigenous knowledge in combination with relevant teaching or community-based experiences or other certificates or diplomas will be considered. The search committee will also rank highly fluent speakers with relevant teaching experience who possess a Master’s degree in a related discipline.
