The Library and Cultural Resources Department at Cape Breton University invites applications from innovative, collaborative information professionals committed to supporting research excellence and transformative student learning experiences for a continuing full-time position as the Indigenous Information Specialist Librarian. We are an engaged group that values collaboration, flexibility, and creativity, and we are looking for candidates with up to two years’ relevant experience who welcome an opportunity to work closely with staff, faculty, students, and the broader Cape Breton community.

CBU’s Library and Cultural Resources Department is an inclusive, service-oriented team, which strives to support student success and faculty engagement. Our work is lead by the CBU Strategic Plan and Academic Plan but also the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. This position reports to the Dean, Library and Cultural Resources.

The successful candidate will provide department-wide coordination and leadership in the delivery of Indigenous related information services. The successful candidate will also work closely with Indigenous and non-Indigenous faculty, researchers, staff, and students to support learning and research on Indigenous topics in all disciplines.

Candidates should have:

  • A Masters degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or its equivalent as a minimum qualification
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a librarian, experience and/or knowledge of the cultural/heritage sector, or combination.
