Cape Breton University is actively seeking an experienced academic leader to serve as their inaugural Dean, School of Nursing.

Reporting to the Vice-President Academic & Provost, the Dean, School of Nursing is responsible for the academic and administrative direction of the School. As an ambassador and advocate for the School across the University and within and beyond the regional community, the Dean will provide leadership and guidance to foster an atmosphere of unity and cooperation among departments, faculty, staff, and community members while building and sustaining a culture that supports academic and operational excellence. Through strategic and visionary leadership, the Dean will promote excellence in nursing education, practice, research, scholarship and creative activity for the development and delivery of innovative programs and initiatives within the School.

As the ideal candidate, you have a graduate degree in Nursing, and a doctoral degree in Nursing or related field. You have an outstanding record of administrative leadership, teaching, scholarship, and research, and experience with university-based undergraduate programs in Nursing. As an academic leader, you are passionate about creating an environment that enables students, faculty and staff to develop and achieve their goals and have a record of inspiring others to excel. You have a deep understanding and appreciation of the collegial and consultative climate at the university level and will work effectively and productively within it. Having sound knowledge of nursing education and practice, you are familiar with curriculum design and new academic program development and implementation, as was as understanding of current and emerging approaches to teaching and learning. With a demonstrated track record of service to the community and profession, you have an appreciation for the opportunities for transformation in the health system and the role that nurses can play in this transformation.
