The Department of Math, Physic and Geology in the School of Science and Technology at CBU invites applications for a tenure-track position in Geology at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position will commence September 2022.

The successful candidate will deliver undergraduate courses in Geology as required within the Engineering, Engineering Technology, Public Health, and Bachelor of Arts and Science in the Environment programs, and as electives for other departments. Such courses may include the following: Introductory Geology, Earth History, Petroleum Geology, Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology. The successful candidate will also conduct discipline-based research and undertake appropriate service activities within the university community. The capacity to develop an externally funded research program is also expected.

Candidate are required to have a PhD in Geology, Geological Sciences or Earth Sciences at the time of appointment. Experience in developing and teaching undergraduate courses in Geology, particularly in Introductory Geology, Earth History, Petroleum Geology, Hydrogeology and/or Engineering Geology is also sought. As well, evidence of discipline-based research conducted in Geology, or a related field is also required. Research and teaching pursuits within the broad range of Geology are also of interest to CBU. Exceptional candidates in the later stages of their PhD may also be considered.

Candidates with a proven track-record of interdisciplinary collaboration, and the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues in other departments are encouraged to apply. Areas of research focus that align with elements of CBU’s Strategic Plan and Research Plan will be a plus. Training in paleontology and/or sedimentology is also considered an asset.

The search committee seeks candidates who demonstrate flexibility and range in their secondary areas of teaching and are committed to innovative forms of pedagogy, including online delivery, and who may be able to contribute to undergraduate programming in other departments and schools.

CBU teaches programs on campus, off campus in locations across and outside of Canada, and on-line. The university and its partners will therefore provide opportunities for faculty members to teach in different modes in different locations as part of their regular workload. While these opportunities may not be available equally for all faculty positions in all programs, a clear willingness to teach in different modes and locations will be noted as part of your application.
