CBU invites applications for a full-time limited term teaching position in Conversational Mi’kmaq and Mi’kmaw Literacy at the rank of Lecturer to commence July 2019 and end April 2020.

The position is within the Department of L’nu, Political and Social Studies of the School of Arts and Social Science (SASS) in conjunction with the Kji-keptin Alexander Denny L’nui’sultimkeweyo’kuom (Mi’kmaq Language Lab) of the Unama’ki College of Cape Breton University. The successful candidate will have their office in the Kji-keptin Alexander Denny L’nui’sultimkeweyo’kuom.
Candidates must be fluent in the Mi’kmaw language. All interviews will be held in Mi’kmaq with the expectation that no English will be used. As well, candidates should be able to demonstrate evidence of their ability to read and write using the Smith/Francis Orthography. Candidates must have previous Mi’kmaw language and literacy teaching experience. The successful candidate will be required to teach conversational Mi’kmaq and literacy on-campus during the day, Monday through Friday, of the fall and winter terms 2019/2020 and to keep weekly office hours. The successful candidate will also be required to attend faculty and departmental meetings.
CBU teaches programs on campus, off campus in locations across and outside of Canada, and on-line. The university and its partners will therefore provide opportunities for faculty members to teach in different modes in different locations as part of their regular workload. While these opportunities may not be available equally for all faculty positions in all programs, a clear willingness to teach in different modes and locations will be noted as part of your application.
