CBU’s first Employee Engagement Survey concluded with a highly creditable response rate of 72%.
As you will see in the report card, overall job satisfaction is high at CBU. The majority of employees feel a great deal of pride in working for the University; they look forward to coming to work; the perception that they can make an impact on the student experience is very strong; and employee and organizational values seem largely aligned. However, in areas like the provision of feedback, communications, management and leadership relations, involvement in decision-making, employment practices, infrastructure and resourcing, we need to improve..
So, while we received positive reinforcement of the kind of organization we are – reflected in how people identify with our students, the community and the purpose of the institution – there is significant room for improvement in how we manage the institution. Happily, we now have data to help guide those efforts and monitor progress.
Here is our proposed game plan:
In late May: Specific school reports will be delivered to deans for sharing with their teams. Department reports will be provided noting that, in cases where department sizes are smaller, they will be grouped with other departments to ensure anonymity.
In early June: The Steering Committee will meet to review the overall results and begin developing institution-wide recommendations
In mid-late June: Results and proposed institution-wide recommendations will be discussed formally with the University Leadership Team (ULT). The development of an institution-wide action plan will commence.
Throughout the summer: School and unit meetings will commence in order to promote discussion of the results and commence development of school and department-specific action plans.
In the summer and fall: We will initiate institution-wide town hall meetings to discuss the results and plans in the context of our University Strategy
In September: We will publish our institution-wide action plan, and complementary school and department-specific action plans.
