About the Job

The Sustainability Specialist will support the work of CBU’s Sustainability Coordinator working towards a campus Sustainability Action Plan.

Duties

  • Institutional Research (Primary role)
  • Using AASHE’s STARS framework, help design a pathway for data collection (i.e. what data is needed and how can we collect it).
  • Help to plan and conduct data collection, design surveys, identify individuals and structures that may already have relevant data, support relationships with administration and faculty to collect that data.
  • Collect and handle Qualitative data (e.g. opinion or transportation survey results). -Collect or estimate and handle Quantitative data (e.g. mass of waste, greenhouse gas emissions in CO2e).
  • Use the MS Office environment to collect and organize all data and work in shared documents in SharePoint, e.g. Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, and possibly PowerPoint slides. Use Forms, if applicable.
  • Communication and Outreach (Secondary role, opportunistically)
  • Help or lead planning and/or delivery of in-community, on-campus, and/or digital outreach event/program
  • Engage with the student body through e.g. CBUSU, student societies, social media, an in-person booth.

Qualifications

  • Background and comfort in handling qualitative and quantitative data
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Eligibility

Enrolled full time at Cape Breton University and in good academic standing.
