Job Description:

Planet Citizen is an umbrella project that brings together several interrelated series and collaborative opportunities (i.e., The Animal Ethics Project (AEP), The Sustainability Project, Inspired by Nature, and the Compassionate Communities series). Each seeks to raise awareness, open dialogue and foster positive social change for humans, non-human animals and the natural world. Through a combination of informal education, research and activism, the project facilitates work towards a more compassionate and ecologically sustainable society. The Coordinator is responsible for creating practical ways to build community engagement and facilitate educational, funding, and resource sharing opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Students from any academic background are encouraged to apply.
  • Preferred qualifications include: Experience with website maintenance is a requirement.
  • Knowledge of WordPress would be considered a definite asset.
  • The successful applicant must have the ability to work independently and have excellent time management skills.
  • Be available to work 15 hours per week.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability and/or animal ethics.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Regular updates of two project websites;
  • Grant applications (finding funding opportunities and coordinating the initial grant writing);
  • Organizing and updating online resources; Researching topics for inclusion on the website,;
  • Attend regular project meetings on Microsoft Teams;
  • Seek out collaborative opportunities with community-based groups, other universities, and not-for-profits,
  • Other research tasks related to the broad themes of ecological sustainability and animal ethics, as needed.
