About the Job

The Human Rights and Diversity Intern will create and deliver workshops, events, and campaigns related to the field of social justice:
• Assisting in program planning, development, and evaluation
• Researching social justice issues, best practices, and educational resources to
inform programming
• Preparing written materials and graphic designs to market and promote SJC
programming
• Conducting outreach activities to promote SJC and get students involved (e.g.
informational tables, doing class talks)
• Liaising with campus and community partners including committees, societies,
departments, student activist coalitions, and community groups

Individuals should have a passion for the following areas of specialty:
• Anti-Racism Advocacy
• Indigenous & Decolonization Advocacy
• International Student Advocacy
• Sexual and Gender Diversity Advocacy
• Accessibility & Disability Justice Advocacy
• Social Justice (Generalist) Advocacy

Tasks/Duties:

  • Personal intercommunication skills

  • Awareness and analysis of systems of oppression and their impacts
  • Social media content development and delivery
  • Graphic design for publicity campaigns
  • Developing educational messaging
  • Time management
  • Conduct research

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled, full time, at Cape Breton University and in good academic standing
  • Ability to work independently
  • Conduct research
  • Ability to create posters, flyers, and possess social media knowledge
  • Familiar with current social justice issues
  • Comfortable public speaking
  • Strong organization skills
