WORK STUDY FALL 2022: Assistant to the Director, Nova Scotia Spelling Bee

Duties:

Assist with the planning and administration of The Nova Scotia Spelling Bee, part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Specifically: Reviewing existing contact information for schools, updating it and expanding it as much as possible; contacting schools pro-actively, finding bee supporters and champions within schools and selling them on the idea of the bee; finding creative ways to contact home schools, encouraging them to sign up; helping schools navigate the sign-up process and informing them about the resources that Scripps provides; answering questions from schools before and after sign-up; attending meetings with the bee Director (Dr Pettigrew) and other CBU staff as needed; other similar organizational tasks as they arise.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to approach, connect with, and work with educators effectively.
  • Excellent organizational ability.
  • Good research skills.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively.
  • Reliability and diligence.

Eligibility:

Enrolled full time at Cape Breton University and in good academic standing.
