What is Start Proud:
Start Proud aims to connect LGBTQ+ students with employers, while promoting the
development of LGBTQ+ professionals, and celebrating the achievements and service of those
in the community.
We facilitate the professional development of LGBTQ+ students as they transition from school
to career in order to build a national network within the community. Our vision is to empower
members of the LGBTQ+ community to be Canada’s leaders of tomorrow; where all institutions
embrace inclusiveness within the workplace and diversity within the workforce.
About the Role:
The Executive Vice President (EVP) role is to support the President in all of their duties and to
serve as a problem-solver and point of contact for everyone in the organization. Unlike the
President, the EVP is more focused on operations.
In this role you will:
● Understand and are committed to the goals, values, mission, and programs of the
organization.
● Stays apprised of issues and trends that may affect the organization.
● Avoids any potential conflicts of interest
● Understands and maintain confidentiality
● Is a vocal advocate and supporter of the organization
● Shares their unique passions, knowledge, and experience for the advancement of the
organization
What you’ll be doing:
● Leads the operations of the organization working closely with the President and Vice
Presidents to ensure execution on organization mandate
● Regularly attends monthly Board meetings and participates in Board committees
● Prepares for all meetings by reading the agenda, minutes, reports, and other documents
necessary for active participation
● Oversight and day to day management and recruitment/hiring of all volunteers
● Provides direction and support to volunteers in the execution of the organization’s
operations
● Report to the Board on all events put on by the organization
● Act as the President in their absence
Term: The EVP is selected by the Board for a one (1) year term, but can remain in the role for
as many years as the Board determines to be in the best interests of the organization.
