What is Start Proud:
Start Proud aims to connect LGBTQ+ students with employers, while promoting the
development of LGBTQ+ professionals, and celebrating the achievements and service of
those in the community.
We facilitate the professional development of LGBTQ+ students as they transition from
school to career in order to build a national network within the community. Our vision is
to empower members of the LGBTQ+ community to be Canada’s leaders of tomorrow;
where all institutions embrace inclusiveness within the workplace and diversity within
the workforce.

About the Role:
As Associate, Program & Events you are responsible for assisting the Programs & Events
Manager in planning and successfully executing on Start Proud’s Year-Round events and
initiatives. Including but not limited to main conferences, social networking events,
mentorship program, etc.

In this role you will:
● Assist the Program & Events Manager with managing cross-functional
relationships with the Marketing & Web, Sponsorship, and Executive team to
promote and plan all events.
● Support with organizing all logistics required for conferences and events to
ensure they run smoothly and deliver the best experience for our participants.
This could include sourcing speakers, securing a venue, organizing catering,
preparing AV, managing on site volunteers.
● Support the sponsorship and marketing teams through promotion of
conferences, award receptions and networking events.
● Provide administrative and operational support where required to ensure the
organization is meeting its mandate and vision. This includes supporting the
mentorship program and regional chapters throughout the year with event
planning.
● Develop relationships with clubs relevant to Start Proud’s events and programs in
order to promote ourselves to them.
● Maintain contact with university career centres and major campus groups for
cross-promotional purposes.
● Work on ways to grow the Start Proud, Out On Bay Street, and Venture Out brands
through monthly events.
● Develop a sense of community among attendees through our events.

Commitment
● ~5-10 hours per week, with increased demands on event days.
● Mandatory attendance at monthly and quarterly management meetings
● Mandatory attendance at Start Proud events and initiatives throughout the year.
