Sydney Downtown Development Association: Administrative Assistant

The Sydney Downtown Development Association (SDDA) is a not-for-profit organization that represents Downtown Sydney’s business sector. As a Business Improvement District, it is our mandate to promote commercial activity within our set boundaries of Downtown Sydney. We are seeking an individual who is looking to work in a fast-paced environment, is forward thinking, easy-going, and optimistic to assist with office duties, and carry out the mandate of SDDA. They would play an integral role in the success of the organization and, in turn, Downtown Sydney as a destination.

It is our mission to make Downtown Sydney the number one destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment on Cape Breton Island. The Administrative Assistant staff would have a front row seat as the next chapter of our downtown unfolds. The successful applicant will assist with programs, research, social media platforms and website, events, marketing and communications, and business recruitment. The Administrative Assistant must be energetic, organized, and willing to learn.

General Duties:

  • Maintain an organized filing system, and general administrative duties
  • Answer telephone and email inquiries, and process them accordingly
  • Research and execution of programs offered through SDDA
  • Basic maintenance of website and social media content
  • Assistance in planning and implementing events, activities, and conferences
  • Completion of applications/reporting for funding purposes
  • Assist Executive Director with management of parking lot facility
  • Communication with members via several platforms

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post-secondary/relevant education required
  • Basic bookkeeping experience and graphic design knowledge is an asset
  • Must possess a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, social media platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be organized and have a strong ability to manage time effectively.
  • Be self-motivated, perform tasks with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-task environment with limited supervision.
  • Works collaboratively as a team member.
