SUMMER EMPLOYMENT/WORK STUDY: Assistant, Canadian Centre for Traditional Music (CSTM)

Canadian Society for Traditional Music (CSTM) Assistant

30 hours/week for 8 weeks.

Job Duties
  • The student will help establish the CSTM in its new home in the Centre for Sound Communities and help prepare for the CSTM’s virtual conference in the fall.
  • The student will organize the Society’s materials as they arrive and set up administrative and access procedures; they will coordinate communications and registration, primarily in relation to the fall conference; and they will support a summer-speaker series currently in development.
  • Specific tasks will include drafting and tracking email communications, coordinating technical and promotional supports
Qualifications:
  • Possess strong research, communication and writing skills
  • Possess a passion for music and ethnomusicology, particularly in the area of tradition musics
  • Experience with editing or event management (e.g. conference organization) is an asset
  • Self-directed and organized
  • Access to a computer and stable internet
  • Students with evidence of experience in music, either in practice or in coursework, will receive priority consideration
  • Must be a full time student in good academic standing
Learning Outcomes
Writing and communication skills (tasks ranging from email to blog posts); organizational and project management; understanding of and ability to analyze academic and music industry activities and administrative structures; familiarity with online communication and presentation systems and best practices.
