POSITION: Science Camp Counsellor (6 positions)
Employment Dates: June 14 to Aug 27, 2020
Wage – 13.65$/hour, 40 hours per week, 12 weeks

Position Summary:
Come join a dynamic staff at Nova Scotia’s premier hands-on science centre. As a Science Camp Counsellor you will be responsible for the delivery of the summer camp programming for children ages 5-12. The STEM based programming will include workshops and field trips that highlight local sustainability, nature, health and wellness and climate change. This position offers you a fun team setting, experience with delivering educational and recreational programs, building relationships with local community organizations, developing your communication skills and supervising youth.
Qualifications:
Combination of education, science or other related disciplines at a university level. Experience in child supervision, preferably in an educational, recreational, museum or camp setting. Experience in preparing and presenting workshops an asset. Fluency in English is essential. First Aid and WHIMIS certification is an asset. Background in science, education or related studies at the university level. Fluency in English is essential. Applicants must currently be students and be returning to full-time studies in September 2021. Applicants must qualify for the Young Canada Works summer jobs program.
Description of tasks:
The Science Camp Counsellor works in the Science Education department under the supervision of the Manager of Science Education and the Science Camp Leader. The primary tasks are:
1) cooperatively deliver meaningful science education and STEM experiences appropriate for children ages 5-12
2) supervise campers while taking responsibility for their safety and enjoyment
3) assist in providing guidance to campers and youth volunteers
4) maintain a clean and safe work area
5) assist in camp promotion
6) track camp weeks in daily journal of activities
