SUMMER EMPLOYMENT-FOOD PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND CULINARY COORDINATOR – STUDENT

Job description: The Food Product Development and Culinary Coordinator will be responsible for collaborating with the kitchen manager, marketing, and management teams to engage in various food product development and commercial kitchen operations. This job will be fast-paced and dynamic. This position is ideal for someone passionate about local food, loves being part of a team, and loves cooking and creating new recipes! Training will be provided. 

Criteria:

The individual hired during this period under the Canada Summer Jobs Program must be:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*
  • Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

*International students are not eligible.  Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

 

Job Duties: 

  • Collaborate with the kitchen manager to develop new local food products, test recipes, and create written recipe cards
  • Develop and test recipes for local food meal kits
  • Organize and standardize meal kits and other food hub kitchen product recipes
  • Generate recipe ideas and inspiration
  • Process a variety of food products
  • Develop and conduct food demos in the Food Hub kitchen
  • Lead and participate in Food Hub cooking and culinary skill-building workshops
  • Create educational content on social media platforms related to Food Hub kitchen facilities and products

Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrate cooking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail, especially when editing and proofreading recipes and written materials
  • Proficiency in Microsoft word, google workspace and computer applications.
  • Ability to lift 30lbs
  • Strong organization skills and time management
  • Ability to seek and respond to quality feedback on recipes and food products
  • Problem-solving skills

*Exposure or experience with recipe development, writing/editing, or the restaurant/ culinary industry is an asset

  • Duration and hours: 35 hrs a week @ $13.35 for eight weeks.
