Campus Recreation Assistant

Job Description

The Cape Breton University (CBU) Department of Athletics oversees, through the Coordinator of Campus Recreation and Wellness, the development and implementation of Campus Recreation activities at CBU. The use of recreation plays an integral part in the lives of students, faculty, staff and the community at large. Expanding Recreation opportunities would positively benefit everyone at Cape Breton University and the surrounding communities. Four main streams of development have been identified at CBU, they include: non-competitive recreation, intramural sports league, club sports and outdoor recreation. T

Duties:

  • Develop a communication strategy that will identified the four main streams of development
  • Create a Campus Recreation Media Guide
  • Assist with the management of Campus Recreation Social Media Accounts
  • Assist with the promotion of Recreation programming and events
  • Assist with the development of Campus Recreation schedule which reflects the four streams identified
  • Manage the Intramural Leagues registration software
  • Manage Campus Recreation e-mail account

Qualifications

Students from any academic background are encouraged to apply. Looking for students with 1-3 years of relevant experience working in Recreation, Athletics, and Administration. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with a proven ability to multi-task effectively are required. The successful candidate will be experienced in supervising varsity athletics events, possess the ability to work independently, but thrive in a team environment.

To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs, youth must:

– be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee
protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee
Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
– have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be
legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or
territorial legislation and regulations.
*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period
as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.14
**International students are not eligible participants. International students include
anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian
citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in
Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a
temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the
Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour
market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not
allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
