Summer Co-op 2020: Basketball Events Coordinator

Duration: January 6, 2020 to May 1, 2020 – 40 hours weekly, with some evenings and weekends required. (time off in lieu of overtime worked)

The Basketball Events Coordinator will assist with the operations of our U10 Jamboree & U12 to U18 provincial championship tournaments. Basketball Nova Scotia operates four weekends of tournaments that host anywhere from 50-100 teams per weekend, boys and girls, across the province. The operation of these tournaments requires significant planning and organization in order to ensure athletes, coaches and volunteers receive a safe and fun basketball experience. The events coordinator will also assist with other smaller events throughout the four months including BNS’s involvement in NAIG (North American Indigenous Games), Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) women’s nationals and other duties as they arise.

Experience and Assets

  • Degree program in Business Administration or Events
  • Experience working in a non-profit sport environment
  • Communication & organizational experiences considered an asset

Specific Duties

  • Assist with tasks relating to the Provincial Championship Tournaments
    • Tasks include: tournament packages, tournament host communication, collecting invoices, ensuring events run smoothly on site
    • Volunteer recruitment, engagement and management
  • Lead the communication with the NAIG team to ensure that BNS is completing required competition elements for the NAIG 2020 summer games
  • Assist in the organization of the CWBL with Wheelchair Basketball Canada and other key partners
  • Assist with all other duties as determined by the Operations Manager and Executive Director
