We are looking to hire a dynamic and multi-talented Marketing and Communications Intern who will support the Partnership’s initiatives and activities related to internal and external communications, as well as assist with the development and implementation of a broad range of communication and marketing strategies that support the organization and its stakeholders.

In this position, you will be given the opportunity to develop your writing, communications and marketing coordination skills, and essential communication planning skills, while being a key part of a dynamic, fast-paced team.

The Job

Reporting to the Communications and Events Coordinator, the Marketing and Communications Intern is responsible for supporting and assisting the communications and marketing functions of the Cape Breton Partnership’s various initiatives and programs.

Duties:

  • Identify and deploy public relations strategies, including developing a wide variety of content and tools tailored to various audiences (i.e. ads, media releases, newsletters, social media, and events);
  • Assist with the development of communications plans for various internal initiatives;
  • Research, write, and edit clear, concise, and engaging copy with minimal required edits/revisions while taking into consideration the organization’s tone and voice;
  • Create, maintain, and evaluate new and existing marketing and communications materials and activities related to print and digital advertising, social media, email marketing, and public relations;
  • Assist with the coordination, writing, and distribution of the Partnership’s multiple electronic newsletters;
  • Assist with the planning and execution of Partnership events;
  • Create and design graphics that accompany social media channels and newsletter copy;
  • Provide general administrative support to the Communications and Marketing Department, including photocopying, filing, responding to and/or directing correspondence to staff including email, meeting minutes, or event coordination;
  • Monitor mainstream media and social media channels for timely news and information;
  • Attend weekly communications/marketing staff meetings; and
  • Perform other duties as required.

Must-have skills and qualifications:

  • Have or working towards earning a Bachelor of Business Administration with a Major in Marketing/Communications, a Bachelor of Public Relations, or a similar educational program’s equivalent;
  • Strong attention to detail and content management skills;
  • Strong English communication skills (verbal/written);
  • Are friendly, professional, optimistic, and enjoy hard work;
  • Strong organization and time management skills;
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously;
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently;
  • Ability to take direction and initiative as needed;

Nice-to-have skills and qualifications:

  • Prior public relations/communications and marketing experience;
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and scheduling tools, Canva, Mailchimp, Microsoft Office, and other digital tools;
  • Knowledge of social media trends and analytics; and
  • Experience with Slack, Eventbrite, and/or other project management and business related tools and software.

Students will learn:

  • How to create communications, marketing, and media materials and collateral;
  • How to successfully plan and execute events;
  • How to work with a dynamic team of professionals across a variety of disciplines;
  • How to draft and update social media content; and
  • Graphic design fundamentals

Working Conditions:

  • Monday-Friday in an office environment with the option to work from home 2 days a week, provided you have a strong and reliable internet connection and can maintain confidentiality.
    • Flexibility in remote working or multi-site office locations may be available depending on the successful candidate’s proximity to our established office locations in Port Hawkesbury, Arichat, Port Hood, Baddeck, and Sydney.
  • Frequent sitting or standing while using a computer is required.
  • Flexibility in working hours is required as some work will happen outside of regular hours.
  • You may be required to travel frequently throughout the Island to fulfil the duties of this role.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle is required.

Dates

May 1 to August 11, 2023 (16 weeks)

Salary

$17.5 per hour + 4% vacation pay
