About The CMM
The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (The CMM) is a Tribal Council representing the eight Mi’kmaq
communities of mainland Nova Scotia. Our mission is to proactively promote and assist Mi’kmaq
communities’ initiatives towards self-determination and enhancement of community. The CMM’s
Department of Governance is currently looking for a motivated and knowledgeable candidate to fill the role
of Student and Youth Engagement Officer.
Position Overview
Under the direction of the Education Advisor and reporting to the CMM Director of Governance, the Student
and Youth Engagement Officer’s primary responsibility is to act as liaison between students and youth and
various CMM Departments. The Student and Youth Engagement Officer will provide guidance and support
to students and youth, ensuring their job duties are being performed as expected. The SYEO may
occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends to accommodate activities such as meetings,
program delivery, or representing CMM at public events.
Overview of Responsibilities:
• Establishing and maintaining working relationships with various funding partners
• Working with Mi’kmaq Communities to develop relationships with students and youth
• Conduct outreach activities to recruit students and youth
• Developing an overview of student and youth engagement programs and activities
• Coordinating training and skills development opportunities for students and youth
• Creating student and youth work schedules
• Documenting, record keeping, and data tracking
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety guidelines (training provided by CMM)
