Title: Social Worker – Long Term Protection
Status of employment: 12-Month TERM
Reports to: Supervisor
Location: Sipekne’katik, NS
Duties:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Social Worker is responsible under the Children & Family Services Act for:
- receiving reports of child abuse and neglect;
- carrying out child abuse investigations independently and where necessary, with police;
- providing services to children and their families to ensure the safety and well-being of children;
- participating in family/group conferencing to seek family and community-based solutions;
- presenting cases to Court;
- supervising and providing services to children in the care of the agency;
- maintaining records on the case management system; and
- responsible for afterhours duty on a rotational basis.
- must be able to travel extensively
Qualifications:
- BSW or MSW, previous child welfare experience will be considered an asset
- eligible for or have membership in the NSCSW
- a good knowledge of child development, family dynamics and functioning, child abuse and neglect
- demonstrated skills in investigation and therapeutic intervention with children and families
- Knowledge of the Children and Family Service Act is a definite asset
- a valid driver’s license, vehicle in good working order and insured for transporting clients
- excellent oral and written communication skills and a willingness to work in an environment where Mi’kmaw is the first language
- experience working in Mi’kmaw communities considered and asset
Classification Range : PR 9(1) – PR 15(6)
Salary range : $ 52,997.10 – $ 82,037.02
