Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government’s Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

The Senior Communications Specialist coordinates the delivery of services provided by the EMC Emergency Medical Care (EMC) Communications & Public Relations department. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Communications & Public Relations and working collaboratively with the Communications & Public Relations team as well as internal and external stakeholders, the Senior Communications Specialist assists with and develops communications plans and activities supporting content administration for the organization’s websites, graphic design, brand, visual identity & logo oversight, project team representative for internally focused projects/committees and supports the development, formatting & distribution of organizational advisories. The Senior Communications Specialist provides direct leadership of the Community Relations Paramedic position as well as Public Relations students on work terms at EMC. This position works with the Senior Manager of Communications & Public Relations to administrate and report on all department activities.
The position entails, but is not limited to the following:
• Contributes to the creation and execution of organizational communications strategies and tactics to support the business objectives of EMC’s contracts
• Provides advice and support in counselling business partners on strategic communications
• Oversees, writes and edits content for communications channels, including (but not limited to): email, social media, speaking remarks, presentations, corporate appointment announcements, etc.) and liaises directly with internal and external business partners to obtain relevant detail/input
• Acts as the main point of contact for EMC’s internal communications, working in consultation with EMC’s subject matter experts to support timely communications plan and tactic development, troubleshoots communications when necessary
• Works collaboratively with and provides direction to communications colleagues to manage EMC’s internal communications platforms; creating a steady-stream of highly relevant content that is suitable for target audiences
• Coordinates design, structure and content for EMC internal and external websites and newsletter
• The Senior Communications Specialist will work with the Senior Manager, Communications & Public Relations to provide daily leadership support and direction including rotational on-call evening/weekend and vacation coverage
