About CMM
The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (The CMM) is a Tribal Council representing eight, Mi’kmaq communities of mainland NS. Our mission is to proactively promote and assist Mi’kmaq communities’ initiatives towards self-determination and enhancement of community. The CMM main office is in the Millbrook Mi’kmaw Community in Nova Scotia and has over 120 Employees. The CMM’s Department of Finance & Administration is currently looking to fill the position of Receptionist.
Position Overview
Under the direction of the Director of Finance & Administration, and reporting to the Office Manager, the Receptionist is responsible for providing front line service to staff and clients of The CMM. The Receptionist also supports the Office Manager with ordering supplies, ensure the office is running efficiently, and other office duties as prescribed or directed.
Overview of General Responsibilities:
- Greeting all persons entering The CMM by providing front line, professional client service.
- Responding to questions on programs and workshops/meetings taking place in-house.
- Helping to coordinate events by setting up meeting spaces for scheduled meetings.
- Monitoring client traffic/flow at the reception area and referring face to face and telephone clients to appropriate staff.
- Providing general information about The CMM, programs and services offered, and basic information regarding the First Nations Communities we serve and support.
- Providing information to clients about appointment procedures and assisting drop-in or phone in clients with making appointments with staff.
- Informing staff about their scheduled appointments.
- Opening/closing office and phone lines according to hours of operation and ensuring messages are forwarded to appropriate staff.
- Ensuring reception area, meeting rooms, and break out rooms are in a clean and orderly manner (wiping counters, refilling supplies for coffee stations, loading/unloading of dishwashers, ensuring refreshments are re-stocked, etc.)
- Receiving and documenting incoming calls.
- Receiving and distributing mail and maintaining log of mail activities.
- Completing the weekly itinerary and ensuring it stays up to date daily.
Position Requirements:
- 1-2 years experience in a similar position or equivalent combination of education and experience. Administrative Assistant certificate/diploma would be an asset.
- Experience working in or with First Nation communities.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment and delivering friendly and efficient customer service.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills, as well as reliable and timely attendance are crucial to the position and organization.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in an environment requiring discretion and confidentiality.
- Experience and proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Ability to Speak Mi’kmaw considered an asset but not necessary.

Salary/Employment Term: $37,000 to $47,000 per year based on qualifications and experience. This is a permanent contract (pending one-year probationary contract).
