Project Controller (Term)

Marine Atlantic is currently looking for a Project Controller to work with our Project Management Office, located in North Sydney, NS. This is a 12-18 month term position.

The Project Controller position will work within Marine Atlantic’s Project Management Office and will be dedicated to the New Vessel Project. This position will work collaboratively with the Core Project Team, Business Sponsor, Project Manager, and various external consultants and internal working groups. This position will provide an opportunity to engage in project management, project controls, risk management, change management, financial management, vessel chartering, and vessel integration.

Additional Key Areas of Responsibility:
• Creates, organizes, tracks, and maintains project documentation and reporting, including Decision & Issue Logs, Document/Drawing Review Logs, Project Status Reports, Milestone Schedule etc.

• Updates and maintains project schedule, using MS Project, inclusive of managing internal and external deliverables to achieve desired timelines and milestones.
• Periodically reviews and updates project documentation, such as the Project Management Plan.
• Tracks project fiscal spend, resolves financial issues where applicable, and coordinates year-end financial submittals.
• Coordinates and works with financial resources to update and maintain project budgets.
• Creates reports to illustrate budget schedules, cash flow, percentage complete and actual spend.
• Provides oversight for the project’s expenditures, including the Purchase Order/Requisition process and ensures invoices are certified and processed for payment in a timely manner.
• Creates project presentations, including internal and external communications presentations, project update presentations, various subcommittee presentations, and other presentations.
• Coordinates and executes project document control.
• Develops and maintains MAI’s internal project file repository inclusive of categorizing and filing all non-transitory project records including, e-mail, reports, technical documents, technical email exchange, non-transitory queries, etc.
• Maintains all project documentation, including numerous project-related logs, trackers, spreadsheets, reports, registers, and plans.
• Executes the continual transfer of all Subcontractor documents from external share files into MAI’s internal file repository (Open Text).
• Attends project meetings (regulatory, project management, internal working groups, external consultants).
• Identifies issues and risks and ensures they are tracked until closure.
• Supports Change Management activities.
• Work diligently, to promote a physically and psychologically safe working environment, that is diverse, accessible, inclusive and equitable.
• Assists in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related duties as required, including working outside of standard work hours to support a multi-time zone and international project.

What qualifications do I need to be considered for this opportunity?
Education and Experience
Bachelor Business Administration, or Bachelor of Commerce, or Bachelor of Management from a recognized educational institution.
AND
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Project Controls within a project environment.
OR
A combination of equivalent education, job-related training, and work experience in a related position.

Additional Qualifications
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, Visio).
• Advanced use of Microsoft Project software
• Superior organizational skills and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with all levels of stakeholders
• Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently.
• Detailed orientated.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Asset Qualification
• Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, or actively working to obtain project management designation.
• Marine Industry experience.

Salary: $74,552.57 – $93,190.71
