Location:  St. Peter’s, Nova Scotia

Term:  September 11, 2023 — February 9, 2024; February 12, 2024 — June 21, 2024 (36 weeks)

Salary:  $26.80 — $31.36 per hour plus MERC, 37.5 hours per week

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Richmond County Literacy Network (RCLN), the RCLN Instructor is responsible for delivering programming approved and funded by the Nova Scotia School of Adult Learning (NSSAL).   As per RCLN’s agreement with NSSAL, the Instructor will deliver 18 weeks of instruction in Basic Digital Skills and 18 weeks of instruction in Digital Wellness to adult learners.  The expected goals of the program are that learners become adept at using a variety of basic software and social media platforms across a variety of devices (e.g. mobile phones, laptops) and understand and develop good habits of privacy and security.  The program allows for continuous learner intake and blended (face-to-face and on-line) delivery.

 

Skills and Competencies

 

Teaching/Instruction/Assessment:

  • Able to provide high quality instructional experiences for learners using the NSSAL provided outcomes and curriculum
  • Able to deliver programs which respect for each learner’s unique identity
  • Capable of conducting appropriate formative and summative assessments to ensure learners are appropriately placed in programming and to monitor progress towards meeting their identified goals
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in instructing/training adult learners
  • Preference will be given to those with experience in teaching a range of adult basic education skills and who are interested in offering RCLN basic adult education programs in the future

 

General:

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Excellent understanding of adult and inclusive education principles
  • Able to apply equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility approaches in instructional design

 

Position Responsibilities:

Deliver high quality programming to eligible adult learners based on the outcomes, curriculum and frameworks provided.  Conduct appropriate assessments and adhere to professional standards of practice.  An instructor must at all times maintain learner privacy and confidentiality and be respectful of a learner’s gender, cultural, ethnic or sexual identity, abilities and socioeconomic status in both personal interactions as well as in the presentation of programming.
