The African Canadian Services Branch (ACSB) located within the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is dedicated to collaborating across the Department to build a Nova Scotian educational system that is equitable, culturally responsive and a safe learning environment for African Nova Scotian/African Canadian learners. The ACSB is dedicated to advancing the holistic development, well-being and academic achievement of African Nova Scotian/African Canadian learners.

About Our Opportunity

The Manager, Partnerships & Post-Secondary Education which supports and liaises directly with African Nova Scotian communities possesses an informed perspective on issues impacting African Canadian education.
In this pivotal role, you are part of a team within the African Canadian Services Branch that works collaboratively across the department and with staff in Regional Centres for Education and the conseil scolaire acadien provincial, as well as provincial departments to ensure African Nova Scotian/African Canadian learners are given the opportunity and resources to experience academic and cultural excellence by developing comprehensive service delivery models which enhance the well being of African Nova Scotia/African Canadian learners within the public school system.

Primary Accountabilities

• Responsible for direct oversight of funding agreements and MOUs with non-government organizations and educational partners.
• Meets quarterly with NGOs to ensure and support a streamlined process in meeting organizational Services & Deliverables to ensure they align with provincial strategies & government’s action plan.
• Exercises managerial duties (two direct reports) and responsibilities in relation to the formulation, development and administration of the African Nova Scotian Scholarship Program and Grant Program.
• Ensures the effective management of human and financial resources by setting and evaluating staff performance targets, promoting diversity and a healthy, respectful workplace, demonstrating the leadership competencies, respecting corporate human resources practices, promoting teamwork and individual development, maintaining internal communication, monitoring revenues and expenditures, adhering to procurement guidelines, acquiring goods and services in the most cost effective manner, and accurately forecasting budget requirements for the fiscal year.
• Provides logistical support to the Council on African Canadian Education (CACE) which includes coordinating meetings between the Minister of Education and other key partners both internal and external.

Qualifications and Experience

• To be considered for this opportunity, you possess an undergraduate degree and several years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.A deep understanding of issues impacting African Canadian education and an Africentric approach as it relates to the African Nova Scotian community and/or lived cultural experience is crucial.
• In addition, you have experience working directly with members of the public, non-government agencies, and advisory bodies. This position also requires experience with strategic planning and leadership. Further, a knowledge of African Nova Scotian communities, organizations and educational partners and demonstrated experience working with these entities is essential.
• You possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills and demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain genuine and collaborative relationships with colleagues and staff both within the organization and externally. You have experience providing advice and developing recommendations to senior leadership, including the preparation of briefing notes, reports, and presentations.

Pay Grade:  EC 12

Salary Range:  $3,687.15 – $4,608.93 Bi-Weekly
