Manager of Sipekne’katik Truck House (Mi’kmaq Art and Crafts)
Location: Halifax Downtown Waterfront

General Description:
The Sipekne’katik Band is seeking a highly motivated individual, with an entrepreneurial spirit and solid
understanding of the Mi’kmaq Culture, to set up and run a newly created store (Truck House) that sells
Mi’kmaq arts and crafts for Sipekne’katik.
General Description:
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day
operations of the truck house to ensure it is run in an efficient and successful manner.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate the set up, marketing and running of the truck house that ensures a welcoming
environment that celebrates the Mi’kmaq culture and experience.
• Buy, market, and sell Mi’kmaq arts and crafts that includes learning about the merchandise
being sold, its history and how it was made.
• Forecast inventory requirements by tracking incoming and outgoing products of all craft
suppliers to ensure sufficient quality products are in stock.
• Act as point of contact to build and maintain a client database of crafters and buyers.
• Monitor, track and reconcile daily sales.
• Supervise staff, that includes processing payroll information in a timely manner.
• Ensure store safety protocols and cleanliness are in place, that includes regular inspections
and reporting incidents as per policy/legislated.
• Act as point of contact with vendors, regulators, and external stakeholders.
• Perform other related duties as requested by supervisors.
Qualifications and Education:
• Strong marketing and sales background with the ability to manage cash and store inventories.
• Experience in the retail industry is preferred.
• Highly motivated, dependable, and flexible to work various hours.
• Excellent customer service skills with openness to learn about the Mi’kmaq culture.
• Strong communication skills to establish strong networks and to supervise staff.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite with ability to learn new software, including ecommerce.
• Must have a valid driver’s license & reliable vehicle with automobile insurance.
• A criminal records check is required. Having a criminal record is not a determinating factor.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Ability to deal with the public in a professional manner with good conflict management skills.
Working Conditions:
• Physical demands of job include standing, walking and moving/lifting inventory
