Reporting to the Health and Safety Director, the Health and Safety Coordinator, based in Dartmouth, NS, will help promote and champion a positive Health & Safety culture in our shop and our construction fields in the region of Halifax.
Responsibilities
● Develop, implement and support health and safety activities and initiatives (policies, programs, procedures, COR)
● Perform weekly facility inspections to ensure regulatory compliance and identify potential hazards
● Lead COR audits and maintain certification standards
● Evaluate and prepare written report on workplace inspections
● Evaluate the organization’s work practices in an effort to reduce or eliminate hazards
● Develop risk assessments on machines and equipment and make recommendations to Operations
● Lead incident investigations
● Follow-up on open action items, legislative requirements, and support the implementation of corrective actions
● Assist with development of safe operating procedures and best practices
● Ensure the necessary process is completed (i.e. offering immediate modified duties) in order to eliminate the risk of a lost time
● Monitors and assesses the quality of incident information and conformance to objectives and standards
● Facilitate and support hazard identification and analysis of hazardous work activities and corrective action planning and implementation
● Lead and provide support to Joint Health & Safety Committees by monitoring committee activities, status of committee issues to identify and respond to information and learning needs
● Ensures all H&S related incidents and their respective corrective actions are tracked, monitored and completed in a timely fashion
● Travel to different site locations within the Halifax region weekly and Caraquet, NB a few times a year

Qualifications
● College or University Degree in Health and Safety or Human Resources;
● 1 to 3 years of experience in a similar role;
● Bilingual (french and english);
● Travel within the region of Halifax and a couple of times per year in New Brunswick
● COR Certification (an asset)
● Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines;
● Strong capacity for communication, teamwork and leadership
