Fisheries Biologist
The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (The CMM) is a Tribal Council representing eight, Mi’kmaq communities of mainland Nova Scotia. Our mission is to proactively promote and assist Mi’kmaq communities’ initiatives towards self-determination and enhancement of community. The CMM is located in the Millbrook Mi’kmaw Community in Nova Scotia and has over 100 Employees. The CMM’s Department of Aquatic Resources & Fisheries Management is currently looking for an energetic, mature and independent candidate to fill the role of Fisheries Biologist within the Mi’kmaw Conservation Group (MCG).
The MCG is focused on promoting and enhancing the environmental health of Nova Scotia’s Watersheds. Its mission is to promote and restore the concept of Netukulimk in the Bay of Fundy Watershed. The MCG is involved with a variety of marine and freshwater management projects and is continuously developing programs involving youth mentorship and First Nations capacity; and, addressing issues relating to species-at-risk, water quality, climate change and directed habitat restoration. In addition to the eight CMM member communities, the MCG also serves a non-CMM community – Fort Folly (NB) First Nation.
Reporting to the Senior Director of the Department of Aquatic Resources & Fisheries Management, the MCG Fisheries Biologist will be responsible for developing and executing research and community projects related to aquatic resource management while also providing technical advice to existing processes within the organization. S/he will also be responsible for documenting research activities; conducting habitat assessments; managing his/her own research agenda and work plan; promoting scientific capacity within Mi’kmaw First Nations Communities; presenting research and results to different advisory committees; adhering to safety protocols associated with field work in aquatic environments; and taking direction from the Senior Director of the Department of Aquatic Resources & Fisheries Management.

Salary/Employment Term:
Salary range: $37,500 – $42,500 per year based upon qualifications and experience. This is a one-year contract with the opportunity of renewal and subject to the policies and practice of the CMM. The CMM offers a substantial benefits package to all employees.
