AECOM is seeking an Environmental Engineer/Scientist to be based in one of our local offices in Kitchener, Mississauga or Hamilton.

This position is expected to begin in October-November 2021.

DCSA—Environment

With world class technical expertise, leading edge technology and innovative project delivery capability around the world, AECOM’s global environmental practice helps industry and government meet their business goals – to achieve compliance, reduce or eliminate risks and manage impacts. We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following which will be performed within a geographic territory:

  • Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope
  • Collect and enter data and apply technical principles and theories
  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance
  • Work both in the field and in the office. You will be in the field 60% of your time, and you will gather data using advanced technology and applications. That work may require you to be in various on-site locations, from an industrial complex to a meadow. You will be in the office 40% of the time, and you will perform analysis on qualitative and quantitative data as it relates to meeting provincial and federal environmental requirements
  • Be part of project team, which includes attending daily meetings, performing rudimentary analysis, and reporting

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a relevant technical discipline, including but not limited to geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, or environmental engineering.
  • Valid Canadian Drivers License
  • Canadian Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 months to a year of experience as an environmental consultant, industry representative, or regulator versed in contaminated site investigation, remediation, and waste management
  • Comfort with technology, apps and databases
  • Solid written and spoken communication skills to execute the above tasks, including using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and preparing technical reports
  • Demonstrates an understanding and shows technical competence in conducting remedial investigations (i.e. installing groundwater monitoring wells, conducting soil investigations etc)
  • Demonstrates an understanding and technical competence in oversight of implementation of remedial actions/construction (i.e. worked around heavy equipment, oversee contractors, installation of recovery well systems)
  • Experience using ArcGIS and generating maps and report figures
  • Knowledgeable and experience with provincial and federal regulations
  • Self-motivated and can work efficiently in an independent role within a group to achieve goals
  • Excited to use technology and apps, and willing to contribute ideas to making them better
  • Have excellent time management skills and are mindful of deadlines
  • Have a high degree of personal accountability, and willing to encourage others to do possess the same
  • Strong interest and appetite to learn about the Environment business and marketplace
