About The CMM
The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (The CMM) is a Tribal Council representing the eight Mi’kmaq Mainland Communities of Nova Scotia. Our Mission is to proactively promote and assist Mi’kmaq Communities initiatives towards self-determination and enhancement of community. The CMM’s Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR) is seeking a candidate to fill the roll of DENR Community Engagement Officer-Designated Position. This is a designated position and restricted to those of Indigenous ancestry.

About the position:
This position reports to the Director of Environment and Natural Resources, the ideal candidate would be an indigenous community member. The DENR Community Engagement Officer will work with and provide environmental and natural resource information to our member communities and report interests identified by member communities. As well as preparing materials for community and organizing sessions. This position will expand as the person works in the role.

Overview of Responsibilities:
• Work with partners to train and inspire local community members and groups to participate in the environment and natural resource sector and develop capacity.
• Provide guidance, support, and advice to the DENR department for activities within communities.
• Develop and contribute to the development of various resources.
• Coordinate and participate at events in community outreach events.
• Continually seek education and training to remain culturally responsible and sensitive to communities.
• Any other related duties required as requested by Director.

Position Requirements:
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with various groups of people both internally and externally.
• Manage time and various activities effectively and efficiently.
• Ability to be adaptable, flexible, work unsupervised.
• Excellent communication skills, written and spoken.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Additional assets of an ideal candidate (NOT REQUIRED)
• Completion of post-secondary education in a related field.
• Fluent Mi’kmaw Speaker

Salary/Employment Term:
Salary Range: $45,000 – $55,000 per year. This is a Permanent Position (pending successful one-year probationary contract).
