Community Engagement Specialist – Acadia First Nation
The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (CMM) is a Tribal Council located in Mi’kmaki and provides services to the eight Mi’kmaw communities of mainland Nova Scotia. Our mission is to proactively promote and assist Mi’kmaw communities’ initiatives towards self-determination and enhancement of community. The CMM’s main office is situated in the Millbrook Mi’kmaw Community and has over 100 employees. The CMM’s Department of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries Management (DARFM) is currently looking for an energetic, mature, and independent candidate to fill the role of the Community Engagement Specialist.
The DARFM is focused on promoting and restoring the concept of Netukulimk in Nova Scotia’s watersheds. Staff members are involved in various marine and freshwater resource management projects. The objective of this work is to ensure that future generations will have access to a healthy environment. The services provided promote youth mentorship and Mi’kmaw capacity building. Key project areas include species-at-risk, marine spatial planning, water quality, commercial fisheries, and habitat restoration.
Reporting to the Ocean Science Manager and the Research and Spatial Planning Officer, the Community Engagement Specialist will be a responsible for coordinating and providing information on the Oceans Protection Plan Program initiatives. Their duties will include preparing educational materials, organizing training sessions and coordinating engagement sessions. Other tasks associated with this position include presenting to advisory committees and following safety protocols associated with field work in aquatic environments. The duration of this contract is until March 2023. The renewal of this contract will be dependent on funding.

Salary/Employment Term: Part-time Position (20 hrs/per week). $22 per hour.
