Title: Researcher

Purpose of Position: The Researcher is responsible for providing access and reference services to the public through both in-person research appointments and remote inquiries via email and telephone.

Reporting Relationships: The Researcher reports to the Archivist.

Qualifications/Experience:

The Researcher will be a motivated individual who possesses excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

The Researcher should have experience with conducting primary and secondary research and experience with customer service.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Attention to detail.

Knowledge of local history an asset.

Responsibilities– The Researcher will:

  • Assist the public with research by providing access and reference.
  • Correspond to remote research inquiries
  • Instruct and educate users on general handling of archival material
  • Inform patrons of available resources and finding aids
  • Ensure the security of archival material so that they are preserved for the long term
  • Retrieve material from researchers and supervising on-site researchers
  • Be familiar with the Archives’ finding aids, resources, and holdings  Ensure that copyright law is clearly communicated to researchers  Ensure that privacy and access restrictions on records are followed.
  • Keep statistics on inquiries and visitors.
  • Make copies of material as requested by the public.
  • Conduct research and share findings with patrons.

Time commitment: 14 hours per week (7 hours per day)

Rate of pay: $15/hr plus 4% vacation pay

Period of Employment: 6 months

Start date: December 6, 2021

End date: June 6, 2022
