Child Behavioural Management Specialist

General Description:
Under the supervision of the Director of Education. The Child Behavioural Management Specialist will plan,
program and implement protocols and interventions based on students needs while providing training and
guidance to teachers and staff to ensure the needs of the children are being met.
Responsibilities:
• One-on-one direct intensive intervention with PreK to grade 12 students.
• One-on-one time with student, teacher, EA’s and other staff for challenging behaviours (hitting, biting,
refusals, defiance, outbursts, profanity, bullying, lying, manipulation) for children with behavioural
disorders, ADHA, ASD, Childhood Trauma, Learning and Intellectual Disabilities and other
emotional/behavioural challenges.
• Observation, assessment and analysis of student’s behaviours and design and implementation of a
subsequent plan; including evaluation and the efficacy will be expected.
• Collaborate regularly with all team members involved with the student. Sufficient time spent
implementing and modelling strategies to all team members, collaboration may also include outside
agencies.
• Incorporate the behavioural plan/program into the student’s daily schedule and curriculum (i.e., IEP),
non-preferred activity tolerance in classroom setting.
• Consistent with Sipekne’katik policies on child discipline, inclusion, non-violent crisis interventions and
core values and missions.
• Support professional Development of Teacher and staff as requested.
• Report to the Sipekne’katik Director of Education and school principals.
• Respect and Understanding on the Mi’kmaw culture.
• Develop, demonstrate and implement classroom management techniques to teachers as needed with
supports fading relative to staff independence with program.
Qualifications and Education:
• Degree in psychology and must be eligible to be registered with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in
Psychology (NSBEP); Master’s degree considered an asset.
• Advanced training and experience in Child and Youth mental health, behavioural challenges and
neurodevelopmental disorders.
• Advanced knowledge of the DSM 5 and ability to assess and diagnose childhood mental health
disorders.
• Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry.
• Recent direct experience in schools considered an asset.
• Knowledge of current best practices in a school setting.Working Conditions:
• Two months strong commitment upfront – three (3) days a week to initiate program with an extension
TBD.
• One-on-one direct intensive intervention with students with varying challenging behaviour.
Pay & Benefits:
Starting Salary: $70,000-$80,000. This position comes with a variety of benefits including health, dental,
disability and life insurances, an employee & family assistance program and employer pension plan. This is a
one-year contract with the opportunity for renewal subject to the policies of Sipeknekatik.
