ABOUT THE CMM
The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (The CMM) is a Tribal Council representing the eight Mi’kmaq communities of
mainland Nova Scotia. Our mission is to proactively promote and assist Mi’kmaq communities’ initiatives towards selfdetermination and enhancement of community. The CMM’s Department of Governance is currently looking for a
motivated and knowledgeable candidate to fill the role of Administrative Assistant.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Executive Director and reporting to the Director of Governance, the Administrative Assistant
is responsible to organize, coordinate, and assist in the delivery of program objectives for initiatives within the
Department of Governance.
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide general support and administrative services for various programs within the Department of
Governance.
• Keep updated records and maintain proper files pertaining to specific initiatives and programs within the
Department of Governance.
• Attend staff meetings and any training identified by senior management staff
• Any other related duties as required and will also provide information and research to other programs and
initiatives of the CMM as requested by the Director of Governance or the Executive Director
• Record, transcribe, distribute and file minutes for the Board of Directors Advisory Committee.
• Coordinate meeting facilities, catering services and accommodations for meeting participants, when required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to work unsupervised with a high level of productivity
• Time management
• Ability to be flexible with job duties
• Managing multiple priorities to ensure clients are well served and relationships are developed and maintained
• Ability to think analytically and critically while problem solving to identify specific needs and potential solutions
• Continually seek education and training to remain culturally responsible and sensitive to needs of client(s)
• Must have a valid driver’s license, as travel within Nova Scotia will be required
• Recent criminal record, vulnerable sector and child abuse registry check
ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• There is an occasional requirement to work outside of normal working hours due to the requirements of the
member communities and clients
• Willingness to learn Mi’kmaw greetings
• Knowledge of Indigenous culture and the member communities is an asset
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:
The following qualifications are desired:
• Diploma/certificate in office administration, business administration
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
• Experience working with First Nation / Indigenous communities, First Nation service delivery
organizations, and applicable government programming etc.
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment

Salary/Employment Term:
Salary Range: $37,000 – $48,000 per year. This is a Permanent Position (pending successful one-year probationary
contract).
