Student Engagement Coordinator

Cape Breton is known for its musical cultures and a significant number of CBU’s students have musical abilities and interests. We are very fortunate at CBU to have a state-of-the-art music room and digitization lab in the Centre for Cape Breton Studies, as well as an innovative BACS Music Major.

The Student Engagement Coordinator will plan, promote, and lead initiatives designed to engage a variety of students in musical activities. This will include organizing and supporting the Student Music Society. The specific initiatives will be designed by the Student Engagement Coordinator in consultation with music faculty and the Digitization Lab Technologist and could include: regular jam sessions, workshops, concerts, listening parties, or karaoke.

Duties:

  • Organizing and supporting (but not necessarily chairing) the Student Music Society;
  • Organizing and promoting music activities and/or events for students;
  • Promoting music and music activities among students;
  • Liaising with other student groups or relevant university departments;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • CBU student, preferably enrolled in a 3 or 4-year undergraduate program
  • Musical proficiency (any instrument or voice)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and also independently
  • Experience working with social media platforms (Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Experience creating social media content (writing captions, posts, creating videos, etc.)
  • Digital graphic design capabilities are not essential, but would be an asset for social media and event promotion

Dates: September – April (start and end dates negotiable)

Salary: $15.20/hour (approximately 10 hours/week)
