Job Description
An Equity Conference is being planned for faculty and staff at Nova Scotia universities and at
Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC). The conference is expected to take place in November
2021 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The conference will highlight the collaborative work being
completed by the universities and NSCC on equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives. The
conference will mark the official launch of exciting resources for faculty and student services
staff to support them in their professional practice to remove barriers in the learning
environment for students through the implementation of Universal Design for Learning and
Culturally Responsive Practices. The resources reflect an inclusive and intersectional approach.

The Coordinator will collaborate with universities, NSCC, government, and others, as needed, to
ensure the delivery of an accessible, barrier-free conference. The Coordinator will provide
support for the following conference planning activities to ensure the conference runs
smoothly:
• logistics
• agenda development
• accessibility planning
• communications
• budgeting
• evaluation
• other duties, as assigned

The Coordinator is expected to attend the conference and provide support throughout the day,
as required. This may include conference set-up and take-down, taking meeting notes and
completing other additional related duties that may be required.

In order to contribute to the diversification of Nova Scotia universities and NSCC, this position is

Job Details
Pay Scale – $15 an hour
Type of Employment – Part time (10 to 15 hours per week)
Duration – Starting June 2021 and ending in November 2021

Qualifications Required
• Applicants must be currently enrolled at a Nova Scotia post-secondary institution in a
program of studies such as public relations, communications, education, event planning,
management, or social sciences, and be returning to studies in September 2021.

Experience and Knowledge
• At least 1 year of experience in event planning, public relations, or communications is
required. It is an asset if the experience relates to the post-secondary context.
• Knowledge in applying accessibility principles to removing barriers and working with
diverse communities are important qualifications.

Skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Organization and time management.
• Works well independently and as part of a team.
• Proficient in using Adobe PDF and Microsoft Office programs, including Teams, Word,
PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to solve problems quickly and creatively.
