Cape Breton South Recruiting for Health (CBSRH) is looking to hire a Navigator to support healthcare professional recruitment & retention for the Strait-Richmond area of Cape Breton Island. This position is funded in part under the Canada Summer Jobs Program and depending on the successful candidate’s availability and preference, flexibility may be possible to accommodate both full-time and part-time hours. Subject to funding, this opportunity may transition to a full-time permanent position.
About Cape Breton South Recruiting for Health
The Cape Breton South Recruiting for Health (CBSRH) was established in January of 2020 to improve health outcomes by ensuring an optimal mix of practicing health care professionals for the Strait-Richmond region by focusing on five key strategic directions:
1) Advocacy,
2) Readiness,
3) Recruitment,
4) Retention, and
5) Preparation for response to environmental and other disasters.
About the Position
Reporting to the Cape Breton South Recruiting for Health Human Resources Committee, the Navigator will play a key role in developing and delivering initiatives falling under the five key strategic directions:
Advocacy
· Advocate for change to address systemic barriers to achievement of adequate regional health professional personnel, services and resources.
· Seek opportunities for additional investment in/site visits for our region.
· Continually educate external stakeholders about the attractiveness of our region.
· Participate in the Navigator network and other provincial/regional committees to identify common issues and solutions.
Readiness
· Create an inventory of health personnel, services and healthcare centre/ clinic assets to provide an accurate projection of strengths and needs.
· Determine the technological requirements to enable remote access to health services and to conduct virtual tours of our communities.
· Build business, community and government relationships within the region so we can respond quickly to recruitment site visits and deliver amazing experiences for potential candidates.
Recruitment
· Support the planning and execution of an advertising campaign to attract health professionals to our area.
· Connect directly with health care professionals to enhance their visit quality and follow-up with them after their visit.
· Work with recruiters to develop an experience plan for physician and other health professional visits.
· Research ways to support current area health professional students.
Retention
· Reach out to existing health care professionals in the region to discuss needs, gaps, and challenges.
· Organize activities to recognize their contribution, connect them to resources as needed, and provide opportunities for them to participate fully in recruitment activities.
· Preparation for response to environmental and other disasters (COVID-19)
· Liaise with health facilities and professionals in the region to gain an understanding of the requirements of the sector to deliver effective health care.
· Support the development and implementation of public health preparedness and action planning
Special Considerations
· In conjunction with CBSRH, the Navigator will develop a plan of action to meet the CBSRH’s strategic goals.
· The Navigator will provide biweekly progress reports.
· The Navigator will write an operations guide that includes a definition of the Navigator roles and responsibilities.
· Participate in the Nova Scotia Navigator Network meetings.
· Other duties will be required from time to time outside the above activities listed. Hours will need to be flexible (some weekends and evenings), and some travel will be required.
· Participate in training opportunities when they become available.

Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility To be eligible, youth must:
· be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*

· have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
