Simulator Assembly Technician (Co-Op), Halifax, NS

As the successful candidate you will report to the Simulator Integration Facility Manager and will be assigned tasks on a daily basis as noted below. You will be part of a helicopter (rear crew) and vehicle simulator build and integration team and will be exposed to lots of cutting-edge technologies, including virtual reality, 6DOF motion platforms, and state-of-the-art rescue hoist simulators. You will be working with and supporting engineers, assembly technicians, and product documentation specialists.

Responsibilities:
Working in a team, within an assembly environment building simulators, performs the following tasks:
o Assembling simulators from sub-assemblies, including structural, mechanical, IT equipment, cabling, and other systems
o Performing Physical Configuration Audits (PCAs)
o Documenting the assembly process with text and photographs
o Labeling parts, assemblies, and wiring harnesses.
o Installing cabling throughout a simulator (e.g., IT cables, signal cables, low power cables)
o Documenting electrical and mechanical assemblies (e.g., assembly instructions)
o Supporting simulator integration and integration testing activities
o Participate in simulator disassembly, packing, and shipping activities.

Responsibility for executing inventory management processes and procedures, including:
o Parts management in our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system
o Parts receiving, Parts quarantine, Parts picking.
o Responsibility for executing tool management procedures.
• Reading and interpreting manufacturing drawings and blueprints
• Participating in R&D projects, as assigned
• Documenting processes and procedures, as assigned
• Maintaining clean work areas in the integration facility
• Following and enforcing safe work practices in the integration facility

Qualifications:

  • Ideally, you will have completed at least 1 or 2 years of your engineering bachelor’s degree or equivalent diploma program. This position would be suitable for students with mechanical or electrical specializations.
  • General mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge
  •  Hands-on experience in assembling, and/or troubleshooting mechanical systems an asset.
  • Electrical wiring and troubleshooting an asset.
  • Manufacturing experience an asset
  • Strong writing and documentation skills
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and professional manner.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office particularly excel is required.
  • Familiarity with process documentation and software- i.e., Visio
  • Demonstrated ability to follow quality procedures.
  • Eye for detail and ensuring high quality deliverables.
  • Demonstrates and observes workplace safety.
  • Demonstrates ability to follow quality procedures.
  • Highly organized, flexible, deadline driven and detail oriented.
