FALL 2021 CO-OP: Events & Marketing Assistant

Cobequid Health Centre Foundation is dedicated to making a difference in the healthcare available in our community. The Foundation turns ideas into action to create stronger healthcare for our community. Each year the Foundation funds 100% of the priority medical equipment for the Cobequid Health Centre to continue to improve services for our community. Are you ready to make a difference? Then spend your next co-op term as part of our small, dedicated and creative team as our Events & Marketing Assistant.

Position Information

  • Hourly Wage: $15.00 per hour. 35 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday:9:00 am –4:30 pm
    • Plus occasional evenings and weekends for events or committee work.
  • Anticipated Date: September 1, 2021to December 17, 2021(16 weeks)
  • Position location: 2203-40 Free Lane, Lower Sackville NS.
    • Position is onsite socially distanced unless regulations surrounding COVID19 restrictions change.
  • Supervisor: Reporting to the Executive Director
  • Education: Co-op Students from Business, Commerce or Public Relations

  • Flexible with work schedule, including evenings and occasional weekend work. The Assistant will be required to staff events, supervise volunteers and attend evening committee meetings.
  • A Driver’s License and occasional access to a vehicle is considered an asset.

Gift of Light Campaign & Online Auction

Each year the Cobequid Foundation’s Gift of Light Campaign, provides the opportunity for the donors to purchase a bulb in honour or memory of a loved one. In addition to the Gift of Light Bulb Campaign and Tree Lighting Ceremonythere is an online auction. The Events & Marketing Assistant will support this campaign, by promoting the Gift of Light campaign to the general public, through social media accounts, production of cell phone videos, PowerPoint television slides through the health centre and the creation of promotional materials including posters.

The student will solicit companies within the catchment area to request auction donations. The student will promote participation in the online auction in the same manner as listed above.

  • Researching companies and organizations.
  • Soliciting donations of auction items from the community.
  • Helping to set up the online auction using in-house software (we will provide instruction).
  • Tracking the bidding for items on the auction.
  • Answering public inquiries and providing technical support about the auction/auction site.
  • Writing product and package descriptions. Taking photos of items.
  • Preparing posters and promotional materials. Researching opportunities for and helping with the distribution of campaign materials.
  • Assisting with the preparation of a PowerPoint presentation for the Tree Lighting Ceremony.
  • Support for the committee/ staff –preparing packages and letters.

Cobequid Check-Up Newsletter

This terms co-op student will prepare this quarterly newsletter from start-to-finish. This includes writing stories, assigning stories, production, layout, and distribution. Depending on the current COVID19 restrictions this may be a digital and small mail out newsletter.

  • Working with staff to determine the appropriate stories for this quarterly edition of the newsletter.
  • Determining placement of the stories within the newsletter and determining who the most appropriate source is for each story.
  • The co-op student will interview a health centre staff member and write the staff profile for the newsletter.
  • The co-op student will interview a community corporate donor and prepare a feature story for the newsletter.
  • The co-op student will interview a volunteer and prepare a profile for the newsletter.
  • The student will arrange and take photos of centre staff of our Smiling Faces of Cobequid section of the newsletter.
  • Preparing the newsletter design, proofreading the newsletter. Distributing the newsletter electronically and through printed copies to staff and patients.

Walk Run the Health of Our Community

The Walk Run for the Health of the Community is a signature event for Cobequid. This year marks the 28th year for this event.

  • Assisting with the logistical organization and promotion of our Walk Run for the Health of the Community.
  • Coordinating the distribution of these promotional materials.
  • Preparing letters and making follow up calls to help secure prizes for this event.
  • Assisting in the preparation of a communication plan to help promote the event.
  • Acting as a support for the committee/staff –preparing packages and event day materials (ballots, prize ballot boxes, print materials).
  • Playing a key role with volunteers and participants on event day.

Social Media & Website

Cobequid Foundation is new to the social media world. A plan needs to be put in place with two goals. The first is how to successfully use these tools. The second is how to maintain these tools with limited staffing resources and expertise.

  • On a daily basis, managing our Twitter account and sending out regular tweets.
  • On a daily basis, managing our Facebook account and providing regular status updates.
  • On a daily basis, managing our Instagram account and providing regular content.
  • Uploading Foundation Videos to YouTubeand editing content for our TikTok account. Increase the number of social media followers.
  • Updating our website and ensuring the best use of this tool to increase information sharing on the Foundation’s successes and initiatives.

Miscellaneous

  • Assisting with the coordination of the marketing, promotional and awareness functions.
  • Helping update the database with address changes.
  • Helping prepare for mailing our monthly tax receipts.
  • Assisting the Executive Director.
  • Other assigned tasks as they arise.
