Part-time Permanent Position
Job Description
The United Heritage Church Custodian is responsible for keeping the church clean and tidy between events, services and various church activities. The job description of a church custodian describes the many duties needed to keep the church looking orderly and pristine at all times. This position is a permanent part-time position of 20 hours per week at $15 an hour. The Custodian answers to the Church Board, through the Ministry & Personnel Committee, though the position requires working in cooperation with the minister and other staff on a daily basis.
Duties
- General maintenance of the property, working closely with the Property Committee in attending to anything that may require immediate attention or professional repair.
- Maintain the general cleanliness of the building inside and out, including:
- Cleaning and restocking cleaning supplies in the kitchen and toiletries in bathrooms.
- Following COVID-19 Protocols, disinfecting all touch surfaces and mopping floors /vacuuming following each meeting or event in the building.
- Attending to the setup and teardown of tables/chairs etc. for each event and meeting ensuring everything is completely disinfected.
- Garbage and recycling removal.
- Carry out a regular (semiannual) deep cleaning of windows, walls, and floors throughout the building, including stripping and rewaxing, or painting touch-ups, etc.
- Keep the outside clean and clear from debris.
- In cooperation with contracted snow removal, ensure all outside entrances and walkways are free from snow and ice buildup in the winter.
- Preparing the sanctuary for worship.
- Attending to heat, lights, doors, and projector system.
- May include moving of furnishings such as pulpit, font or communion table, etc.
- Remain visible to assist those using the lift (when we are able to use it again).
- Other duties as may be required from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Must have positive attitude and be willing to help in all things.
- Must be courteous and tactful.
- Must be self-directed and able to complete all custodial duties with little or no supervision.
- Must be flexible and willing to adapt to varying schedules and level of work required.
- Must have knowledge of different cleaning techniques, disinfecting.
- Must be trustworthy and honest.
Education & Experience
- No formal training is required, though it is considered an asset.
- Experience in simple plumbing, electrical, and general repair work is considered an asset.
- Must be familiar with general cleaning techniques and able to follow safety requirements
- Must be able to follow directions and communicate with staff.
Working Conditions
- Work is completed in and around church.
- Must be in good physical condition and strength.
- Must be available to work on Sundays.
- Must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed for events.
