At this time, the Halifax Port Authority (“HPA”) requires: 

Communications Co-op Student (Winter) 

The communications co-op will assist the marketing and communications team with public relations, communications, social media and administrative duties to support the department’s efficiency and productivity. This position reports to the Manager, Internal Communications 

The main responsibilities include: Communications 

• Creating, proofreading, and editing stories or information for internal and external audiences 

• Writing monthly newsletters to highlight the Port’s sustainability progress 

• Providing content for or completing media monitoring summaries 

• Gathering photos, information and stories for the 2024 Annual Report 

• Supporting Safety & Health Week internal communications and promotion 

Marketing & Content Creation 

• Assisting in the creation of content including profiles of employees, tenants and partners for newsletters, reports and social media 

• Helping in the creation of written, video and image-based content for social media channels 

• Supporting development of digital marketing initiatives and social media campaign strategies for upcoming cruise season 

• Using design skills to create graphics and marketing templates 

Community Engagement & Events 

• Supporting community engagement initiatives such as the Port Community Liaison Committee 

• Assisting with planning and execution for Cruise Canada New England Symposium in June 2025 

• Helping to coordinate and organize staff special events and public information sessions such as the Annual Meeting and One Port City Day (community event) 

Other 

• Drafting internal announcements and information for staff intranet 

• Reviewing HPA website(s) for current/relevant material 

• Assistance with ongoing communications material and other duties as assigned 

The successful student must be detail oriented, organized, and comfortable working with photos and/or video. The student must also be proficient in: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. A student enrolled in Communications with a focus in Public Relations or a Business student with a focus in Marketing is considered an asset. 

The term of this position will be from January 6, 2025, until April 25, 2025. 

The compensation for this student position will vary depending on program and year of study. The minimum student rate is $20.50 per hour. 

The successful student will be subject to successfully completing and maintaining a Criminal Record Check and must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Pass (RAP).
