Position: Make Your Move Antigonish Communications Assistant

Reports to: Active Living Coordinator
Salary Range: $18/hour
Status: Co-op Student Position (35 hours/week for 16 Weeks) Winter 2024
Start Date: January 3rd, 2024
End Date: April 30th, 2024

Summary

The County has been awarded the opportunity to receive support from the Nova Scotia
Department of Communities Culture Tourism and Heritage (CCTH) on a multi-year movement
and physical activity initiative. The goal of the initiative is to mobilize community to create a
cultural shift where simple, everyday natural movement becomes a social norm and to support
communities in creating a vibrant future with an improved quality of life.

Make Your Move Antigonish is the public face of the initiative and campaign. MYMA celebrates
and encourages everyday natural movement such as: walking, cycling, outdoor active play,
moving more at home, school or work, and standing (less sedentary time). MYMA encourages
and promotes simple movements that can easily fit into one’s day. People will begin to
experience the many health benefits that can be achieved by adding these movements into
their day. When we move, we feel better!

Working with and reporting to the Active Living Coordinator, Make Your Move Antigonish
Community Coordinator, or designate, the Make Your Move Antigonish Communications
Assistant (MYMA Communications Assistant) will develop a variety of communications and
marketing materials, assist with the planning of special events, work with various departments,
organizations, and community partners, and be under the supervision of the Active LivingCoordinator, and or designate. The successful individual will have a passion for community and
building a great brand while working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

Communications
• Create ads and marketing material (copy and design).
• Media and social media monitoring.
• Assist in managing Make Your Move Antigonish owned social media accounts.
• Assist with regular website updates and content development as required.
• Create a 12-month social media plan/strategy for the initiative.
• Develop a MYMA newsletter.
• Write and distribute media releases on Make Your Move Antigonish project and
initiatives.

Make Your Move Antigonish Community Events and Brand Awareness
• Attend MYMA related events to promote the MYMA campaign and message with or in
replacement of the MYMA Community Coordinator.
• Assist with the development of MYMA related promotional materials.
• Assist the MYMA Community Coordinator in organizing, planning, and coordinating
MYMA activities or related activities, including MYMA Community Celebration,
community workshops, etc.
o Create and maintain accurate event budgets; plan event programs; coordinate
onsite logistics; assist with recruitment and volunteer assignment.
• Social media and promotions
o Create and distribute materials following the approval of the Active Living
Coordinator
• Event Evaluation
o Conduct internal and external evaluation exercises (i.e. surveys, attendance
records) to determine event successes and potential opportunities.
• Assist community groups with MYMA endorsed event logistics.
• Provide promotional resources to community groups who support the idea to co-brand
with MYMA (i.e. templates, promotional ideas, etc).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge and confident skills using social media platforms.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build and foster relationships.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Knowledge and experience planning and coordinating small- and large-scale events.
• Ability to balance multiple projects while maintaining a positive and proactive attitude.
• The employee/incumbent is responsible for work and always apply all of the safety
tools, resources and policies and procedures leading to a safe working environment for
citizens, team members and others. Work is executed in a safe manner in accordance
with organizational and other legislated Occupational Health and Safety policies,
procedures, regulations, guidelines and/or standards.

Qualifications
• Currently enrolled in post-secondary education in communications, public relations,
marketing, or other related discipline.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• General knowledge and/or experience with photography and graphic design would be
considered an asset.
• Valid driver license.
• Occupational Health and Safety courses in: WHMIS, First Aid and CPR as well as other
OHS training and certification as required for assigned tasks.
